The largest recognized impact basin in the solar system, Utopia Planitia features a crater that stretches about 3,300 km across Mars’ northern plains. Because the impact occurred early in Mars’ history, Utopia has at one time hosted an ancient ocean.
After detecting large deposits of subsurface water ice beneath the impact basin, in this part of Mars, several deposits were discovered for the ice extraction and processing into drinking and industrial water to provide local colonies. It’s estimated as much water as the volume of Lake Superior may lie in deposits located 1 to 10 meters below the surface.

Restrictions:
- all ammonites and minerals mined in the crater, with proper declaration, can be exported by tourists from Mars. The total volume of all findings cannot exceed two 40-foot containers. Cargo transportation to the destination must be carried out exclusively by the Mars Heavy Lines corporation, as the only logistics operator for the transportation of artifacts from Mars;
- a license for individual excavations can be opened on the spot, its cost depends on seasonality and may differ.
